Garbage & Recycling

Effective May 1, 2024, Lakeshore Recycling System will provide the garbage and recycling collection services for the Village of Lake Villa.

The rates for refuse, recycling, and leaf vacuuming for bi-monthly billing that appears on the utility bill will be $59.30 for a 96-gallon container and $57.30 for a 64-gallon container.

Additional bulk items outside of the one per week require a waste sticker.

Material must be placed out by 7 AM on your collection day. Residents may contact LRS Customer Service at 844-633-3577 to request services such as an additional garbage cart and back-door collection. Please note these services are offered with an additional fee. Extra carts are $5 per cart a month.

Appliances/White Goods

Appliances including dishwashers, refrigerators, washing machines, and others will be collected at a rate of $35.00 per item.  Residents must schedule this service by calling 844-NEED.LRS.

Yard Waste Subscription Program

Yard waste collection operates seasonally from April 1 through November 30, aligning with your waste and recyclables service schedule. Organic food scraps may be mixed with yard waste during this period. Collection fees are determined based on your chosen program and are prepared and paid accordingly.

Subscription Program: Yard waste is collected weekly using a 95-gallon LRS-provided cart. For additional yard waste beyond the cart capacity, residents are granted six approved bags, bundles, or personal containers per week at no extra cost. Any items exceeding this weekly limit will require a sticker for collection. This convenient service is available at a flat fee of $150 for the entire year.

Service Sticker Program: Yard waste must be in non-LRS containers up to 32 gallons, biodegradable paper bags (minimum 2 ply thickness), or bundled appropriately (no more than 50 lbs. each, no longer than 4 ft., and not exceeding 2 ft. in diameter). Each item must have a sticker and be placed curbside on your service day. Stickers are available locally or through LRS.

Individual stickers can be purchased at the Village Hall or the Jewel in Round Lake for $2.95 each.

Leaf Collection

In the fall, LRS runs a leaf collection program for six weeks, offering weekly curbside vacuuming services. Residents should rake leaves into manageable piles, preferably no wider than 3' to 4'. It's crucial to avoid obstructing culverts or sewer openings to prevent drainage issues during heavy rain or snow. Please remember that leaf collection is for leaves only; do not mix in other yard waste or heavy items, as this could damage equipment or endanger our drivers. Stay tuned for updates on collection dates for this service.

Holiday Décor Removal

This service is available throughout the entirety of January. Simply place your tree curbside, ensuring it's free of tinsel, lights, or ornaments. Please note that only real trees are accepted, and they should not be encased in plastic or frozen to the ground. Regrettably, decorated trees or those contained in plastic bags will not be included in this special collection.

Alternatively, trees may also be donated to the Lake County Forest Preserve (LCFP). Donated trees are chipped and used for trails and landscaping at forest preserves throughout Lake County. Details on how to donate can be found on LCFP's website at http://www.lcfpd.org/recycle-your-christmas-tree/.

Solid Waste & Hazardous Waste

Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) provides solid waste management programs to Lake County. These programs are aimed at reducing our reliance on landfills through source reduction, recycling and energy recovery. In general, their programs help residents dispose of problem wastes, such as household chemicals, electronic equipment, and yard waste. Recycling programs are targeted at both commercial and residential markets in order to divert as much solid waste as possible from reaching landfills.  Each dwelling in the Village of Lake Villa will be assessed an $0.11 per month charge for this service.

More information about SWALCO programs including Household Chemical Waste & Electronics Collection dates and sites can be found at www.lakecountyil.gov/swalco.
